Why label

Two obligations. One tool.

The transparency obligations under Article 50 apply from August 2, 2026. The EU AI Act splits the responsibility between two roles, and KI-Kennzeichnung covers both layers in a single step.

Deployer obligation: disclose visibly

If you publish AI-generated content, you must disclose this visibly to end users. The official EU icon, clearly visible, in the right place, optionally with the text label “AI-generated”.

Provider obligation: mark machine-readably

Providers must mark AI-generated content in a machine-readable way. KI-Kennzeichnung embeds the IPTC-DigitalSourceType as XMP, optionally complemented by an invisible watermark for maximum robustness. PNG/JPEG receive a C2PA signature.

Frequently asked questions

Who must label AI content?

The EU AI Act (Article 50) requires providers to mark AI-generated content in a machine-readable way (paragraph 2), and deployers, for example shops or agencies that publish such content, to disclose it visibly to end users (paragraph 4). KI-Kennzeichnung addresses both obligations in a single step.

Are my images and videos stored?

No. Your files are transferred only for processing and are not stored after the result is returned. Saved presets, custom icons and an audit-proof labeling register are available in the Enterprise/self-hosting plan, where they stay on your own infrastructure.

Are the EU icons official and free to use?

Yes. We use the official European Commission icons for labeling AI-generated content. The icons are free to use, no attribution required.

What does the tool cost?

Nothing. Labeling images AND videos, the invisible watermark, file verification and batches of up to 50 files are free for good, no subscription, no credit card. Only the REST API, self-hosting and the audit-proof compliance record run on Enterprise.
